Chief Technical Officer

Our client, an award winning Social Enterprise that support users run automated message workflows is looking to recruit a dynamic Chief Technical Officer. The successful candidate Must be a natural leader, excellent coding background and have experiences deploying & maintaining software or cloud hosting service.

Key Responsibilities: –

• Lead the dev team in their day-to-day work using Agile tools and methods.
• Act as the senior-most developer in building the Company platform using the Groovy & the Grails framework.
• Ensure the Company satisfies the requirements of all SaaS platforms, with focus on scalability, high availability, and security.
• Lead in maintaining and improving the Companies continuous integration, delivery approaches & AWS infrastructure.
• Recruit, hire, mentor and manage all members of the Company dev team.
• Oversee the quality of scoping discussions, implementation & testing within the dev team.
• Take input from the CEO & COO to ensure the Company product and roadmap are focused on the most relevant needs of the end users.
• Through estimation, measurement of delivery & detailed reporting, provide a predictable momentum of implementation work.
• Ensure the design & implementation of all user-facing functionality upholds a high standard of consistency, accessibility, and ease-of-use.
• Work with the COO to provide responsive and thoughtful technical support to the end users.
• Maintain excellent user- and developer-facing documentation.
• Work with the Senior Management to ensure operational requirements of the Nairobi office.
• Maintain the Company culture of adaptability, experimentation, common goals and integration between our business units.

Qualification: –

• Must have a bachelor’s degree in Computer science or IT.
• Must have experience leading a team in Agile software development.
• Must demonstrate experience acting as a line manager & mentor of developers.
• A strong coding background, with grounding in object-oriented programming, is mandatory.
• Java or other JVM language experience is a major bonus.
• Extra bonus points for candidates with a background knowledge in Groovy/Grails.
• Good eye for design, paired with strong implementation skills.
• Good knowledge of modern JavaScript frameworks and killer CSS skills.
• Strong knowledge and past experience in building zero-downtime, high-availability, scalable and easily maintainable web services.
• Experience deploying and maintaining software on cloud hosting services.
• Excellent focus on Amazon Web Services’ Beanstalk (EC2 + ELB + RDS), S3, Cloud Watch and related services.
• Excellent background in Kanban, daily stand-ups and retrospectives, Jira, Trello, GitHub, and Slack.
• Great communication skills.
