From the streets to driving a Range Rover, radio presenter James Kang’ethe aka Bonoko is one happy man and he only has one request to the person who bought him the high end car, “please don’t take it away”.

Bonoko as he is popular known, was the guest host on KTN Friday Briefing which is hosted by the sassy news anchor Betty Kyalo.

The sassy anchor could not hold back as Bonoko only spoke in sheng and at times it seemed Kyallo did not get what he was saying.

According to Bonoko who is a former street urchin said that he only paid a quarter of the amount and the rest was paid by the sponsor who he did not mention.

“Mimi nilitoa quarter, sponsor ndio alitoa mingi. Lakini kitabu (log book) imeandikwa sponsor, anytime naeza ambiwa enda wacha gari, kwa sababu nakaa poa kama muheshimiwa,” said Bonoko which left Kyallo in stiches.

He added, “Nikiendashs hiyo gari, mimi husema enyewe Mungu yuko. Hakuna utajiri ingine naeza taka kwa sababu nlikuwa nalala kwa gunia dani ya mitaro.”

Following his successful radio career, he so far started the Bonoko Sufferer Foundation which aims at providing necessities to street kids.

Bonoko pledged to donors to come forward and provide land so he can build a children’s home for street children.

Bonoko, who hails from Banana turned to the street life together with his siblings and mother after being chased from home by his dad. “Nilipofukuzwa, nikaenza kwa street hapo Globe (roundabout)”.

While at the Globe Cinema roundabout, he witnessed police shooting a suspect and allegedly placing a fake gun (bonoko) on him.

His narration of the happenings went viral, earning him an interview call-up at Ghetto Radio by Majimaji.

According to Bonoko, he had little hopes of getting the job since “nlikuwa mchafu, viatu sina, nguo sina.”

But he eventually got the call-up to host a show on Ghetto Radio with the station providing food and clothing for him.

Aside from sharing his inspirational story from being a street child to a successful radio presenter, he presented the presenter who recently said he had no idea what a ‘KDF’ was.

He gifted her a special Valentine’s gift of ‘KDF’, to the amusement of many.
