Gender-row South African athlete Caster Semenya tied the knot with the love of her life Violet Raseboya in a lavish white wedding ceremony held on Saturday, January 7 in the capital Pretoria.
The wedding ceremony coincided with Caster Semenya’s 26th birthday.
Semenya wore a ‘Prince Charming-style’ outfit of embroidered jacket, gold breeches and velvet slippers for the ceremony, while her bride Violet Raseboya donned a full-length white lace and appliqué dress.
Sharing a number of intimate wedding pictures on Instagram, the 800m Olympic gold medalist referred to her bride as “my heart” and used the hashtag #ourperfectday to mark her big day.
The event was attended by the couple’s friends, relatives, scores of local celebrities and athletes.
Semenya and Raseboya later changed into traditional outfits – sun-coloured attire and beaded accessories – for a dance at the reception after the ceremony.
Guests were given “thank you” gifts of bottles of wine, with special labels featuring the lovers.
In December, 2015 Caster Semenya married her partner in a traditional ceremony, where she paid a bride price of £1,500 (KSh189, 000).
“I just got married a few months ago. With the support I get from my training partners, my wife, coach, fellow South Africans and the support system at the university, there’s no way you can’t be happy,” Semenya said in an August 2016 interview with South African media.
Semenya and Raseboya have known each other since they were teenagers, and while Semenya was in Rio, her wife rooted her on via Instagram.
