An 18-year-old woman from Ekalakala location in Masinga Sub-County, Machakos County died on Friday evening after she was attacked by a crocodile while washing clothes at the Masinga dam.
The woman, a Standard Eight pupil at Wamboo Primary School, had gone to the dam after school, accompanied by a friend, when she was attacked and killed, said Ekalakala location assistant chief, Timothy Nzioka Kivati.
With the woman’s friend watching helplessly in horror, the crocodile dragged the woman’s body under the water before vanishing.
The woman’s deformed body was retrieved Saturday morning and has been taken to Matuu Mediance Hospital mortuary as Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) officers look for the killer reptile.
Stephen Mbithi, a resident of Ekalakala location, has expressed disgruntlement with KWS, saying the agency is yet to take concrete measures to prevent loss of human and livestock lives brought about by wild animal attack.
Two weeks ago, in a near-similar incident, two boys from Kivingoni Sub-location were attacked and injured by crocodiles in Thika River.
