There was drama in Majengo Estate in Thika Wednesday morning when a middle-aged woman was paraded in public on suspicion of arranging young girls as sexual clients for men.

Mary Wanjiru Karume, who is in her forties, was frog-marched across streets in Thika Town.

Angry neighbours cornered the suspect at her house in Majengo, took her out of the house and paraded her in the streets, demanding she confesses her “evil deeds”.

According to a victim of the woman’s alleged business, the suspect is her mother’s friend, who had attempted to lure her to engage in sexual activities with a middle-aged man last week Monday.

She said the man took her out to a hotel in Thika, where they had drinks before setting another date for them to meet for a “good time”.

“Mama Ken (Wanjiru) introduced me to a middle-aged man and told me that he was very rich and could buy me anything we wanted. She asked me not to ignore his approaches but instead, take advantage of that ‘rare opportunity’ to squander his money. Later on Friday, he invited me for a meal at a Thika hotel where we were supposed to spend the evening,” said the girl.

On the material day slated for “good time” with the minor, a relative to the girl’s family spotted her with the man and phoned the girl’s mother.

The girl’s mother tricked the minor into leaving the hotel facility in a hurry, claiming that there had been an emergency at home and she was needed urgently.

It was at that moment that the girl boarded a tuktuk and rushed home, where she was informed that she had been traded for sex by Wanjiru.

Upon interrogation, the girl revealed that the man had promised to contribute fully toward her birthday party budget, which had been put at KSh30, 000.

The girl’s phone call log shows that he attempted to reach her twice after the aborted meeting, but she did not pick up.

The girl’s mother could not believe that her neighbour and friend could exploit her children for financial gains.

She claimed that on the material day, Wanjiru kept monitoring her movements; perhaps to keep track and warn the man in case his moves drew attention.

“We have worked with her for quite a long time and I cannot believe that she can scheme such an evil plan against my own daughter,” she said.

However, she has declined to press any charges against the woman or the man since, according to her, her daughter was not harmed.

“Since God has saved my child from this danger, I am not willing to press any charges against them,” said the mother.

When confronted to respond, Wanjiru admitted to introducing the girls to the man but she claimed that she only showed them the man and warned them that he was dangerous.

“When I was taking them to him, I wanted to show him to them and warn them that he was not a good person and he was fond of luring young girls into bed,” said Wanjiru.
