Our client is a Children’s Home located in Nairobi. They seek to hire a HR Officer who will be responsible for setting up a department, developing HR policies, directing and coordinating Human Resource activities.

Location: Nairobi
Salary: 50 – 60k

HR Officer Job Responsibilities

  • Analyze wage and salary reports and data to determine competitive compensation plan.
  • Write directives advising department managers of Company policy regarding equal employment opportunities, compensation, and employee benefits.
  • Consult legal counsel to ensure that policies comply with federal and state law.
  • Develop and maintains a human resource system that meets top management information needs.
  • Oversee the analysis, maintenance, and communication of records required by law or local governing bodies, or other departments in the organization.
  • Identify legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resource functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reports are in compliance.
  • Recruit, interviews, tests, and selects employees to fill vacant positions.
  • Plan and conducts new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward Company goals.
  • Keep records of benefits plans participation such as insurance and pension plan, personnel transactions such as leave records, hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting.
  • Coordinate management training in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety, and sexual harassment.
  • Develop and maintain effective internal & external communication methods.
  • Advise management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Administer effective delegation in all branches and departments.
  • Administer performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance and equity within organization.
  • Administer salary administration program to ensure compliance and equity within organization.
  • Administer benefits programs such as life and health insurance, pension plans, vacation, annual leave, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance.
  • Conduct wage surveys within labor market to determine competitive wage rate.
  • Prepare employee separation notices and related documentation, and conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
  • Contract with outside suppliers to provide employee services, such as temporary employees, search firms, or relocation services.

Qualifications for the HR Officer Job

  • Degree/Higher Diploma in Human Resource Management
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Human Resource Officer
  • Strong customer focus and problem solver
  • Strong communication skills and superb inter-personal skills;
  • High level understanding of planning, forecasting and strong financial experience;
  • Leadership through influence and effective conflict resolution;
  • Should have a good track record and of unquestionable integrity;
