You’ve done all in your power and your networks power to get a job. Despite all these efforts, you have not even secured an interview leave alone a job leaving you woefully unemployed. Could there be some minor things that you are overlooking that have a major impact on your job search?
Here is a checklist to see where you are going and how to fix it.
-How much effort do you put in filling out job applications? Do you fill out that online application just for the sake of it or do you fill it out as if your life depends on it? If your application is not of quality, your chances of hearing back from a potential employer decreases.
-How many job applications do you apply for in a day? If you are applying for way too many jobs, you are likely to suffer from burnouts which result to poor quality applications. Take time out to re-energize and reorganize your job application strategies.
-Do you a search list? A search list is a list of organizations and/r industries that one wishes to work with. Having one will ensure that your job search is targeted and you don’t wander around so much.
-Is your CV and cover letter a cut one fit all or do you tailor them to each job that you apply? Generic applications could be the reason as to why you are not making headways with your job search. Customize your CV for each position that you apply for to capture the skills they are after.
-Are you maximizing your networks to learn to abut the unadvertised jobs in different organizations? Networks are a great resource and a great way to getting your foot in the door to potential employers.

-Do you proofread your applications before sending them? No? Okay, then stop wondering why your applications are hitting a brick. If your job applications have errors, they will hold against you and no one entertains sloppiness, and there goes your job.
-Do you do job follow up to ensure that your application was received or you just sit and wait as you bite your fingernails to be called for an interview? Well, you should follow-up on your applications typically after a week to know if it was received. After an interview, you can follow-up once a week to show interest, but don’t become a bother.
-What measures have you taken to making yourself more marketable other than your academic qualifications? Join professional associations in your field such as KUJ, ICPAK and/or IHRM. You must have seen how employers are keen on this associations.

-How professional is your CV? Is it one that you did after graduating and you have just been updating? It is advised to seek professional CV writing services and have your CV updated to make sure that your CV is selling your skills properly and update with CV styles. Having your CV on point will ensure that you seal the deal, get the interview and get the job.
-What tone are you using for your application? Are you wondering what a tone is on paper? When your friend sends you a text message you can always read the emotions of the text, right? That’s what I’m talking about. Your application tone friendly and professional or negative full of attitude? Ensure that your application exudes a friendly and professional tone.
-What do you share during an interview? Do you badmouth your former employer and/or colleagues? That might be the downfall your job search. Never badmouth during an interview, stick to what you have to offer for the position and why you the best fit.

-What kind of contact information have you provided, is your email address professional? -How does your social media profile look like? Is it professional or do you post obscene things time after time? A vast majority of employers will snoop on your online life to get a sense of the kind of person you are in terms of character. A LinkedIn account is a must have for any job seeker. Always update your profile with new skills to interest potential recruiters. Make sure that your social media does not cost you that big job, remember, the internet never forgets.
-Depending on your field, you can have a professional website where you share some of your works. Blogs and portfolios are a good way of increasing your self-brand. When applying for a job you can always provide a link to your website.
-Once you see a job advert, when do you apply for the job? Do you do it immediately or do you wait till the last day? When you come across job adverts that scream your name, apply ASAP! You never know the timeline of the recruiter and getting your job application early will ensure that your application is considered.
-Every job advert has its own guidelines, how religiously do you follow them? The advert that you need to attach your Certificate of Good Conduct or CRB Certificate, but you didn’t and you there waiting to hear from the employer? Okay. Always follow the job application guidelines as stated and get that stage 1 clearance.
The above list might seem exhausting to factor in on every application you pursue, but it’s not. You can’t expect to lose weight just by sharing workout tutorials, you will have to put in the effort to work out. The same goes to this list, just reading and gaining knowledge and not implementing them, you will not get that job.
With time, the list will be easier and faster to incorporate for a job application just like eating your favorite pizza, and you inch closer to getting hired.
