Kenyatta National Hospital has announced the sacking of 12 medical officers for abandoning duty as the government stamped its feet in the standoff with doctors.

The hospital also announced that will pursue disciplinary action against 48 doctors who have been participating in the 95-day-strike.

KNH chief executive Lily Koros told a media briefing that the doctors affected had ignored a memo by the hospital’s management dated December 3, 2016 that ordered them not to participate in the strike.

Ms Koros also ordered all doctors, interns and post-graduate students attached to the hospital to report to their duty station or risk dismissal, eviction from hospital quarters and other administrative action.

“We are escalating the disciplinary actions on medical officers who have deserted work,” said Ms Koros.
