MONACO, France, March 15 – Manchester City surrendered a two-goal aggregate lead as they were bundled out of the Champions League after losing 3-1 to Monaco on Wednesday night.
Leading 5-3 from the first leg their two-goal advantage was wiped out by a vibrant home side within 30 minutes as Pep Guardiola’s men drew 6-6 on aggregate, but went out on away goals.
Livewire Benjamin Mendy broke into the area and when his cross was blocked, Bernando Silva found Kylian Mbappe to fire home with seven minutes on the clock.
And Mendy was influential again as Monaco doubled their lead. The full-back found acres of space on the left before crossing for the unmarked Fabinho (28) to fire home first time.
City looked more of a threat after half-time with Kevin de Bruyne operating in a deeper role and Sane pulled a goal back on 71 minutes firing home into the roof of the net after Raheem Sterling’s effort was saved.
But just six minutes later Tiemoue Bakayoko headed past Willy Caballero to hand the hosts a 3-1 win on the night and put them into the quarter-fi
