Mombasa County government has offered to help a woman who was gang raped and had her legs crashed on railway line at Kibarani Mombasa.

Speaking during the International Women’s Day, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho said his county government will pay the woman’s hospital bill and have her relocated from Mworoto slums in Tudor to a decent house in Kisauni.

The governor also called for the prosecution of the perpetrators.

The woman, a mother of two, was gang raped by two men as she was walking home from a funeral meeting in Kibarani on February 3.

RUN OVER

The men then slashed her legs with a panga before tying her on railway lines leaving her for dead where she was run over by a cargo train which crashed her legs.

“If I hadn’t screamed, I would have been killed. Luckily the locomotive driver heard my cries. My legs have been amputated and I am afraid my future is bleak,” she said during an interview in hospital.

According family sources, the woman is currently recuperating at Aga Khan Hospital in Mombasa but has been unable to settle the hospital bill which has shot to more than Sh2million.
