A section of politicians from Naivasha on Friday, March 17, forced Naivasha Member of Parliament (MP) John Kihagi to hop into his car and speed off after they launched a stinging attack on his character following the legislator’s recent deportation from Rome, Italy.
Mr Kihagi, who was a guest of honour during a prize giving ceremony at Milimani High School in Naivasha on Friday, found himself in great difficulties trying to advice the students on matters discipline as politicians who were present at the event questioned his moral authority on the topic.
On Tuesday, March 14, the first time MP, who had accompanied his colleagues to Rome, was deported from the European nation as a result of being in possession of a passport that had forged stamps on it.
The stamps were dated October 20, 2015 and October 24, 2015 and had “Amsterdam Schipol” as the place they were issued.
He was held for several hours by Italian police before being deported back to Nairobi.
On arriving at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Mr Kihagi was again arrested by airport authorities for landing without his passport, which had been seized by the Italian officials, and given to cabin crew with instructions to deliver it to their Kenyan counterparts as a parcel.
He was later released as police investigate the matter.
Kihagi was among a delegation of Catholic MPs on a regular trip to Rome and then the Vatican to see the Pope, EDAILY understands.
The legislator now blames the Kenyan media for his deportation from Rome, saying that the press “was keen to highlight the negatives”.
In his speech at Milimani High School on Friday, the MP decided to give the issue a wide berth, instead concentrating on advising the students to observe discipline as an ingredient for success, and always be truthful in their interactions – and avoid using hard drugs and substances.
“Discipline is vital in your education and you should keep off from lying and other immoral activities if you want to succeed in life,” said MP Kihagi.
Mr Kihagi also pledged to construct a dormitory in the school that will accommodate close to 1,000 students.
Former Naivasha MP, Jane Kihara, who graced the event, took to the podium to say the incumbent MP did not have any moral authority to lecture students on discipline following his “shameful” encounter in Rome.
“We are ashamed by the actions of our MP. We want to denounce them because they have ended up tarnishing the name of Naivasha,” said Ms Kihara.
Another politician, Antony Rebo, a Parliamentary aspirant, wondered why MP Kihagi has not yet been charged with fraud, claiming his actions “bordered on criminality”.
“We are calling on relevant government agencies to move with haste and investigate MP Kihagi over forgery allegations. He should be prosecuted if sufficient evidence is found against him,” said Mr Rebo.
Naivasha branch Maendeleo ya Wanawake chairlady, Esther Nyokabi, said she was “shocked by the MP’s bizarre behaviour”.
Efforts by the press to get comment from MP Kihagi were futile as he sped off shortly after the politicians took issue with his character.
Members of the public were left watching the drama in amusement.
