A 38-year-old woman from Muthusine Village in Igembe Central Sub-County is nursing injuries at Maua Methodist Hospital after a man attacked her, accusing her of stealing a cell phone.

The woman’s assailant chopped off her hand and left breast in the attack.

Speaking on her hospital bed, the victim, Winfred Nkatha, denied having stolen a mobile phone, which led to the attack.

Ms Nkatha says the incident happened when she asked her aggressor’s wife to help her fetch water from a stream and when she arrived home, the man came out of a fence and attacked both of them with a panga, injuring his wife in the process – and chopping off the victim’s hand and breast.

Ms Nkatha says her neighbours’ attempts to protect her from the attack were futile.

Good Samaritans rushed her to hospital, while she was bleeding profusely.

Ms Nkatha, the sole bread winner of her family, has pleaded with well-wishers to come to her rescue, saying she is currently unable to fend for her family as she is on road to recovery. Her eldest child is aged 8, and youngest child is aged 2.

Ms Nkatha says her hospital bill has also ballooned, to levels out of her reach – KSh40, 000, and she is requesting well-wishers to help her foot the treatment bill.

Ms Nkatha has appealed to security agencies to expedite investigations and bring the culprit to book.
