Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, has been charged with malicious damage to property and creating disturbance.

Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi, ordered that Bishop Wanjiru remains in custody until 3.00pm on Thursday when a ruling on whether she will be released on bond will be delivered.

She is accused of willfully and unlawfully destroying four ballot boxes as well as assorted ballot papers valued at Sh30,000 which is part of Jubilee party’s property.

Alongside Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko and former Gatanga MP, Peter Kenneth, Bishop Wanjiru is seeking the Jubilee Party ticket to vie for governor in the August 8 general election. The results of the contest are yet to be released.
