Manchester United defender Luke Shaw recently spent 11 months on the sidelines after sustaining a horrific double leg fracture in a Champions League game
MANCHESTER, United Kingdom, Apr 3 – Jose Mourinho all but confirmed Luke Shaw’s Old Trafford career is over with some scathing criticism of the player ahead of United’s Premier League clash with Everton on Tuesday.
The Manchester United manager said there was no chance of the left-back even being a substitute for the midweek game despite United having several players out through injury.
“It’s difficult for him to be on the bench. Because I cannot compare him with Ashley Young, or with Matteo Darmian, or with Daley Blind,” said Mourinho.
“I cannot compare the way he trains, the way he commits, the focus, the ambition. I cannot compare. He is a long way behind.”
Shaw has made just two appearances in the last four months for United and was not even on the bench for Saturday’s game against West Brom at Old Trafford, as Mourinho decided to name Matthew Willock ahead of Shaw.
Shaw’s last appearance was a month ago in the fiery clash against Bournemouth, when it was alleged Mourinho became incensed after seeing the 21-year-old defender chatting to an opposition player at the break.
Relations have been frosty ever since and the future looks grim for Shaw, who became the world’s most expensive teenager when he joined United from Southampton for £27 million in 2014.
Shaw has struggled for form and fitness since suffering a double leg break in September 2015 when Louis van Gaal was the Red Devils’ manager and now it looks like his time is up at Old Trafford.
