Kenyans on Twitter have showered messages of sympathy and goodwill to Jubilee Party’s Kiambu senatorial aspirant Paul Karungo, following his dramatic defeat to incumbent Kimani Wamatangi in the primaries.
Karungo, the outgoing MCA for Ngewa ward, lost to Wamatangi, who garnered 206,282 votes, by about 40,000 votes during the polling exercise.
Eric Solomon Mungai, John Kabogo Njoroge, Kihu Moshe Mutua and Kiama Peter were the other contestants in these nominations.
These result do not however reflect the wishes of voters from a certain constituency in the county.
A clique of the affected voters have since taken to Twitter and asked Karungo not to abandon his quest, and instead consider running as an independent come the August elections.
This they have been communicating via the hashtag #KarugoGoIndependent.
Here is some sampled online opinion:
Karungo was in forefront fighting Kabogo’s poor leadership & most imprudent manner in which county govt was operating#KarungoGoIndependent
