Can you send money to Vodacom Tanzania through Mpesa?
The answer is yes.
Safaricom Kenya recently introduced cross boarder money transfer between Kenya and Tanzania.
This is to help Kenyans who are living, working or studying across border to be able to send, receive and withdraw money though Mpesa service.
The service came into life weeks after Safaricom largest share holder Vodacom created an avenue for international Money Transfer.
Kenyans are now able to send money from Mpesa to Vodacom and vice versa easily without any complication.
How then can you send money to Vodacom Tanzania through Mpesa?
The procedure is very simple.
Send money from Mpesa Kenya to Vodacom users in Tanzania.
This service only works if you have registered as an Mpesa user.If you have not registered as an Mpesa user then see our article on How to register for Mpesa.
However if you are already registered, here is how to go about it.
- Go to M-PESA on your handset and select Lipa na M-PESA.
- Select PayBill and enter business number 255255.
- Enter recipient’s mobile number as account number in the format 2557XXXXXXXX then Enter amount.
- Enter your M-PESA PIN and confirm the transaction.
- You will receive a confirmation message which you will confirm.
- That is all.
You will also receive an additional message from M-PESA IMT.
Note: The money you send is delivered as Tanzanian Shillings. It is wise to first check the exchange rates of the money you are about to send to get the exact amount they are going to receive.
The exchange rates are usually revised daily at midnight.
To check the applying rate:
- Dial *234# and select Tariff query.
- Select IMT Conversion (Tsh.).
- Enter amount you want to convert in Ksh. and Submit.
However, all other M-PESA charges apply when you use the funds e.g. withdraw, send money, pay bills or Lipa Na M-PESA.
