You all have been depending on hearsay concerning football star Dennis Oliech’s financial status but now you get to know from the horse’s mouth.
The former Harambee Stars striker has laughed off recent claims that he is wallowing on poverty.
Speaking to the Nairobian, Dennis the Menace said he is doing well.
“I’m not interested in replying to such useless claims. I do not know why people are fixated with my life even if I take a low profile. I’m now mature and doing well,” said Dennis.
Speaking about the photo that started all the negative publicity, Oliech said: “I was at Koroga with friends and took several selfies, and for one with a different shirt to appear is just ridiculous.”
Less than a week ago, he signed a deal with Bunson Travel as the official 2018 Fifa World Cup Russia Ambassador. This is one of few brand ambassadorship gigs he has earned.
In February, he signed a one-year extension with UK-based betting company, Betway. According to unverified sources, the deal is worth Sh25 million a year.
“The new deal is an improvement on the earlier one and let’s just say I am happy and satisfied with it. The best part, of course, is that with the deal, I get to interact with people and do my bit in promoting Kenyan football.
“How much it is worth is not important; the recognition for what I have done for my country and advancement of the Betway brand as well as selling Kenya as a country are the crucial segments of this deal,” he said.
Oliech, who was speaking at the family restaurant, Mama Oliech, along Chaka Place, also spoke up about the importance of family.
“My family comes first; it has been my pillar through my career and I am very thankful for the support I have had. If I start talking about my family it can be endless. And for paying for my mother’s medical bill, I don’t hold it as a big deal; that is among my primary responsibilities for the family and I gladly did it.
“My mum is recovering well; she is on medication and we thank God for her. I was lucky to be in a position to take her to hospital in Europe and I will always be thankful for that,” he said.
