A parent’s concern on social media on the condition of vehicles used to ferry school children has sparked debate online.

The concerned user posted a picture of a worn out 14- seat vehicle that was labelled as a school van, expressing reservation at its road-worthiness.

Steny De Jack shared the picture in an Umoja residents Facebook group and wondered why parents bother to pay for school transport  if the vehicles are in such situations.

“The owner the school that owns this school van, shame on you! Hata nyinyi wazazi hamusikii aibu mkilipa transport fee?” he posed.

Other users on the Facebook page condemned the negligence in most schools with similar vehicles.

Others pleaded with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to crackdown on schools that put  students’ lives at risks.

Two months ago a student in Mombasa was crushed to death by school bus in which he was riding.

The 6 year-old boy from St Augustine’s Preparatory School in Mombasa was ran over by the back wheels of the bus when he fell down through an opening on the floor of the bus.
