‘Normal’ life disrupted as WhatsApp goes down

Hundreds of thousands of people’s lives were disrupted on Friday morning after popular social media app WhatsApp went down.

Users globally were unable to send or receive messages.

The popular instant messaging app has more than one billion monthly active users globally.

The glitch characterised by a total failure to send or receive texts, images, videos or make calls happened shortly after 11am East Africa Time Zone.

Normal service was restored after an hour.

“Heartbroken” users camped on Twitter to rant.
