Former Nairobi Town Clerk John Gakuo died on Tuesday morning at a city hospital.
Mr Gakuo was rushed to hospital from Nairobi Remand Prison in Industrial Area after developing health complications.
His lawyer Asa Nyakundi has confirmed the death.
The 68 year-old Gakuo was serving three-year sentences after being found guilty of participating in contributing to the loss of public money during the purchase of a 120-acre cemetery land in Mavoko in 2008, where Sh238 million was paid irregularly.
