Purchasing Officer – Nairobi, Kenya

Our client, a family owned Flower Company with a dynamic workforce is currently looking to recruit a Purchasing Officer. The candidate will be responsible in leading the procurement for major strategic contracts, working collaboratively with the internal client to determine and deliver the procurement strategy, and manage the bidder interaction up to the conclusion of the competition. 4 years of experience in the Rose Industry with a minimum of 2 years in a managerial role is mandatory. Candidates in the Agricultural and Manufacturing sector are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:
• Plan, Develop, lead and execute procurement strategies and procurement procedures and guidelines.
• Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness.
• Forecast price and market trends to identify changes in balance in buyer-supplier power.
• Craft negotiation strategies and close deals with optimal terms.
• Verifies purchase requisitions by comparing items requested to master list.
• Forward available inventory items by verifying stock and scheduling delivery.
• Prepare purchase orders by verifying specifications and price.
• Verify receipt of items by comparing items received to items ordered.
• Conduct proper purchasing planning.
• Monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand.
• Seek and partner with reliable vendors and suppliers by creating a good relationship.
• Assisting finance and budget holders with the monthly budget process ensuring accurate cost are scrutinized and budgeted accordingly.
• Actively participating in cost reduction in this farm by ensuring minimum prices and good quality.

Qualifications:
• Must have a bachelor’s degree in procurement and logistics/Economics/Commerce or related disciplines.
• Must have 4 years of experience in the Rose Industry with a minimum of 2 years at a managerial level.
• Must have proven working experience in a procurement manager role.
• Must be available to work for six days in a week (Monday to Saturday).
• Familiarity with sourcing and vendor management is needed.
• Interest in market dynamics along with business sense.
• A knack for negotiation and networking.
• Working experience of vendor management software.
• Ability to gather and analyse data and to work with figures.
• Solid judgment with ability to make good decisions.
• Should demonstrate strong leadership capabilities.
• Candidates in the manufacturing and Agricultural Sectors are encouraged to apply.
