A Kenya Airways plane was forced to return to Moi International Airport, Mombasa, after it developed mechanical problems midair.

The plane was headed to Nairobi from Mombasa on Monday evening.

It had 95 passengers and five crew members on board.

Kenya Airways has confirmed the incident.

The airline said flight KQ605 had departed Mombasa at 1754 hours and was forced to land back in Mombasa at 1834 hours.

KQ also confirmed that the aircraft has been grounded.

“Kenya Airways confirms that there was a disruption on a scheduled flight from Mombasa to Nairobi due to a fault in the aircraft warning system that raised a false mechanical alarm forcing the captain to take precautionary safety measures,” part of the statement read.

“After assessment, engineers declared the aircraft grounded.”

“Some passengers were accommodated on subsequent flights KQ617 and KQ619. Other passengers with connections beyond Nairobi have been given accommodation in Mombasa to travel tomorrow to their final destinations.”
