It is that time of the year when Kenyan musicians get paid their share of royalties collected from various sources such radio stations, tv stations, music copyright stickers in public vehicles, music licenses in businesses etc. However, just like other years the musicians got very tiny amounts.

Khaligraph Jones shared an Mpesa text message of Ksh2,530 as a royalty payment from the Ksh37 million they collected for all his hit songs that dominated the airwaves. He went ahead and warned MCSK from sending him tiny amounts of money in future since he has given permission for his music to be pirated. He posted:

“MCSK Siku Moja Tutakuja Kuwavuruga uko Mbaya Sana, Msijaribu kunitumia izi peanuts tena, Infact I have given Authorization for my Music to be pirated, Don’t collect money on my Behalf anymore, Nisiskie mmeshika mtu akicheza Wimbo zangu kwa street, msinitumie izo peanuts zenu tena, The OG shall be respected #mrinternational

He then went ahead to share how artists will have to eat in order to survive on that money. He posted:

“Today is Payday, Lol, this is What Artists are Having for Dinner courtesy of MCSK alafu mnashindwa mbona wengine wamekonda, Sauti sol Sitawachokoza Tena, naelewa sasa .”
