Our client, a Safari Company based in Tanzania, is looking for an Operations Manager to be based in Arusha. He/she will have oversight of the operational aspects of 4 properties – 1 in Kenya and 3 in Tanzania and will ensure a smooth flow of operations. He/she will also be accountable for managing the direction and strategy of the commercial efforts of the Camp and have an oversight of the financial performance, including relevant reporting of the same to the Directors. He/she must be willing to travel frequently in East Africa (Northern Circuit) and abroad.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the office in Arusha and its team (Financial Manager, Assistant Manager, Administrative and Maintenance staff).
  • Recruit, select, train, supervise, motivate and assessment of the team.
  • Implement a new Culture in the company within the Human Resources team of both countries, together with the training team.
  • Deal with contractors to assure quality standards and deadlines are met.
  • Coordinate with suppliers (Kitchenware, furniture, canvas manufacturers, solar team, linen, plumbing team etc.), their deliveries, teamwork, licensing, etc.
  • Maintain relationships with existing clients (Tour Operators) and creation of new ones.
  • Deal with relevant authorities on renewal of licenses etc.
  • Assure the company quality standards are met constantly.
  • Cooperate with Ops Manager of the sister company dealing with the safaris.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service to our guests.

Qualifications:

  • 8 to 10 years of luxury hospitality experience, at least 5 of which have been managing sales personnel and leading sales and marketing activities.
  • College/University education- added advantage within the travel & tourism sector.
  • Proven organizational and leadership skills.
  • Understanding and prior experience of working in the East African luxury safari market.
  • Understanding of the local & international markets, along with strong trade networks in the local & international markets are essential.
  • Excellent people and interpersonal skills.
  • Outstanding written & oral communication skills in English essential, desired for Swahili and other languages.
  • Ability to interface confidently with high profile customers and media.
  • Willing to travel abroad and attend fairs and tradeshows.
