After months of a shutdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the phased re-opening of schools in Kenya will begin on October 12.

The Education ministry announced this on Tuesday, saying students in Grade 4, Standard 8 and Form Four will be the first to return from October 12.

Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, in a statement with the school calendar, said that for these three groups, term two will begin on October 12 and end on December 11 – after 11 weeks.

Their holiday will run from December 24 to January 1, whereas term three will begin on January 4 and end on March 13 – another 11 weeks.

National examinations will take place in March 2021, with KPCE exams beginning on March 22 and ending on March 24, and KCSE exams starting on March 25 and ending on April 4.
