A businesswoman reported to have disappeared with a Sh30,000 worth television set belonging to a city trader has been charged with obtaining goods by false pretenses. Eunice Wamaitha is accused of obtaining a 32” TV from Tob Kabucho in Nairobi on January 12, 2021, by falsely pretending she was in a position to pay for the same which she knew to be false. Wamaitha allegedly approached Kambucho who was offering to sell some furniture and the TV, with intent to purchase them. They settled for Sh50, 000 for the furniture and Sh30, 000 for the TV. Wamaitha paid Sh50,000 and pledged to pay the remaining Sh30,000 for the TV in three installments beginning February last year. However, she did not honour her pledge and instead, closed the business and disappeared. She later allegedly sold the business and items she acquired from Kabucho including the TV set and went underground. The two later met and agreed that she would pay the money before the end of September 2021 but the complainant did not receive any payment as promised. Wamaitha denied the charges before senior principal magistrate Derrick Kutto of Kibera law courts and claimed the matter arises from a business deal where they partnered to start a business that collapsed. She said she has evidence that they partnered to start a business that did not do well owing to Covid 19 pandemic and pleaded for lenient bail and bond terms. She was released on a Sh100, 000 bond and an alternative cash bail of Sh30, 000. The matter will be mentioned on March 3 when Wamaitha is expected to table documents proving that she was operating a joint business with Kambucho.
