Nandi Senator Sanson Cheragei will cool his heels in police custody over the weekend following his arrest for skipping the hearing of a hate speech case against him. The vocal lawmaker, known to be a close confidant of Deputy President William Ruto, is accused of skipping court on April 19, 2022. He has an active case of incitement over remarks he made to the effect that all leaders who mistreat Ruto will be 'profiled' and health with if the second in command wins the August 2022 polls. Senior Principal magistrate Esther Kimilu directed that the politician be produced in court on Monday before trial magistrate Wendy Kagendo who will determine whether to free him or not. Cheragei announced his arrest via Twitter on Thursday but stopped short of explaining the possible reasons. The arrest comes days after he secured nomination to defend his seat on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket  in the August 2022 polls.
