Kimilili MP elect Didmus Barasa

Kimilili Member of Parliament elect, Didmus Barasa and two other suspects are expected to take plea at Kakamega High Court in a murder case in which they are charged with shooting to death Brian Olunga at a polling station in Bungoma. Through his lawyer John Khaminwa, Didmus is set to defend himself before the court whether he is guilty of the crime he is charged with or not. This come a few days after Didmus surrendered himself to police after being in a hideout in connection to the murder of the aide of his competitor, Brian Khaemba of the DAP-Kenya party. The incident happened at Chebukwabi polling station shortly after the August polls closed. Also read: Didmus Barasa: Victim of circumstance or master of controversy? – VIDEOS When he surfaced after the incident, the MP defended himself and denied the claims that he was on the run. “I went to Nairobi to make an application for anticipatory bail pending arrest. But when I saw on TV yesterday the regional police commander asking me to surrender, I drove from Nairobi to this place. I am ready to cooperate with the police so that I can also know what killed that young man,” said Mr Barasa. He also claimed that there was no evidence to prove that the bullet that killed Olunga was from his firearm. The deceased was laid to rest on Saturday at their village in Samitsi village, Malava constituency. He condemned Didmus's actions and urged politicians to contest peacefully in any election without having a situation where they have to win by doing anything, even if it means taking someone's life. The family of the deceased now wants justice to prevail in the case. The family also revealed that they were not aware that their son had joined a politician as a bodyguard. The autopsy revealed that Olunga died from excessive bleeding after he was shot in the head.
