A police boss who led a team of officers from the Traffic Department in the grilling of Neno Evangelism Apostle James Ng’ang’a over a fatal road accident that ended the life of Ms Mercy Njeri is dead. Mr Charlton Muriithi who was the Traffic Commandant in 2015 and led his juniors in grilling the controversial preacher died at Kenyatta National Hospital where he was being treated. In a statement filed at Capitol Hill police station the police said that their colleague was sick and admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) and passed on in the wee morning hours of Friday, August 19, 2022. "He was undergoing cancer treatment at the said facility (Kenyatta National Hospital). The message was shared by his brother and also confirmed by officers from KNH police post,” the statement sent to vigilance house read in part, adding that the body of the late was then moved to KNH Farewell Home. Also  read: Pastor Ng’ang’a: Only foolish people call me controversial  The deceased who has served in several top positions within the National Police Service (NPS) hit news headlines continuously during the accident that involved a red Range Rover belonging to Pastor Ng’ang’a. It all started when the family of Ms Njeri said that they did not believe that officers attached to Tigoni Police Station would handle the case well which forced former Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinet to order that the matter is handled by Mr Muriithi. Also read: Pastor Nganga mocks Mwaure Wahiga’s low votes – VIDEO  Initially, before he was sent to handle the matter it had emerged those police officers at the station that was handling the matter had deliberately sought to cover up the pastor's alleged involvement in the accident. “Anyone found culpable, irrespective of their standing in society must face the full force of the law,” he told journalists then. Until his demise, he was serving in the Office of the President as the Director of Illicit Small Arms and Light Weapons. He is a former director of personnel at the National Police Headquarters. Also served as Director of Internal Affairs Unit. His rank is that of a Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police.
