Supporters of Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance leader Raila Odinga say they are ready to stage peaceful demonstrations in protest over what they believe is their leader's stolen victory in the August 2022 elections. Speaking during a coalition meeting in Nairobi Tony Sira, who unsuccessfully vied for the Member of County Assembly (MCA)seat in Kibra an MCA aspirant said youths and leaders in Kibra were disappointed that the outcome of the polls did not, in his words, reflect the will of the people. "We are disappointed but are certain the truth will be known soon. If there's no justice we are ready to exercise our constitutional rights in search for justice," he said. “We are here to say we are going to stick with Raila as he goes to courts, we will go with him and when he comes out we are confident he will have been declared a winner," added John Mukoya, another youth leader. The meeting was aimed at discussing the current political situation in the country. It comes a day before the Odinga, who is the leader of the Azimio coalition, is set to file a petition at the Supreme Court challenging the election of William Ruto as President-elect. Ruto was announced winner of the election by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in a tight race in which he garnered 7,176,141 votes (50.49 percent of the vote cast) against Odinga’s 6,942,930 (48.8 percent). Ruto on Sunday thanked Odinga's supporters for maintaining peace during the political season.
