Charlene Chelagat Ruto, one of the daughters of Kenya's President William Samoei Ruto, took to social media on October 19, 2022, to call out people misusing her name to con Kenyans. In the post seen by Nairobi News, Ms. Ruto revealed this after meeting one of the victims who'd fallen for the scam in which her name was used. "Enough is enough! I have had enough! Met a young lady by the name of Mercyline this morning who informed me that she was asked by someone purporting to be me on social media that she would get a job if she sent money to them and to meet them at Weston Hotel, even through WhatsApp messages. Kenyans, don't allow yourselves to believe, be cheated, and conned by these fake accounts. I would never ask for money from anyone to give them a job, or to meet them, or give them anything for that matter. Why should I when my parents are working day and night to create equal opportunities for all Kenyans? Don't allow yourselves to be cheated. This is my real account." Ms. Ruto posted on Facebook. In her Tik Tok video seen by Nairobi News on October 19, 2022, she clapped back at these strangers for getting scammed using her name and image; and then coming to her to furiously demand their money back. On October 13, 2022, top Nigerian singer Mr. Peter Okoye of the P-Square group also asked for advice from his tweeps after being accused of scamming a Nigerian mother. The scammers used his deep fake images and videos to con unsuspecting victims using the Zoom Up Your Life lottery that Mr. P promotes.
