Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has reacted to Raila Odinga's remarks on having the outgoing chair of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Wafula Chebukati prosecuted for crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court, in The Hague. Mr Odinga made the remarks during a meeting with delegates in Mombasa County, where he also vowed to “expose” what transpired in the 2022 presidential elections. “There will be no need for Kenyans to vote come 2027 until we clean up Chebukati’s rubbish,” Mr Odinga said, adding that the IEBC boss committed crimes against humanity and should therefore be prosecuted at The Hague. Ever since he announced Dr William Ruto as the winner of the August 9, 2022 presidential election, Mr Chebukati has been under relentless attack from Mr Odinga and his Azimio brigade. President Ruto was declared the winner of the presidential contest with 50.49 per cent of the vote cast against Mr Odinga's 48.85 per cent, a result which the latter petitioned against at the Supreme Court of Kenya. The announcement of Dr Ruto as the winner of the presidential race was also openly rejected by four IEBC commissioners. However, the four - Juliana Cherera, Justus Nyang’aya, Irene Masit and Francis Wanderi - have since been suspended and a tribunal formed to investigate their conduct over accusations of gross violation of the Constitution.
