‘Police come to you,’ says Regional Commander Bungei

Nairobi County Regional Police Commander Adamson Bungei has assured Nairobi residents that the police are on top of security matters. The Regional Commander said they have now changed their mechanism of solving cases of insecurity by approaching Kenyans and inquiring about their challenges rather than waiting for them to report such cases at police stations. By reporting the matter to a nearby police officer, Mr Bungei says that the matter will be solved there within the shortest time. “This has been brought in because of the collaboration that we are even seeing today between the county government and the national government and also the communities, the businessmen and anybody else to ensure that we the police now reach the people, it is not about the people reaching out the police…this time round we are doing what is called outreach policy, you get a police within your doorstep, report the matter there and you will be attended,” Mr Bungei said. Mr Bungei spoke on Monday after paying a courtesy call to Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Mr Kennedy Ng’ondi. Also read: How 'kind police officers' robbed man then handed him fare to get home safely The Regional Commander said that the collaboration between the police and the Nairobi County Government has ensured that the security issue, which was a tall order towards the end of last year, is fully addressed. “We can put it very clear that Kenyans are safe in the city and we are looking forward to a better service in terms of reaching out to our customers, in terms of approaching incidences and challenges that have been there before. We are still on top of things,” Mr Bungei said. Last year, cases of robbery and muggings were frequently reported in Nairobi estates, a matter that saw the national government and the county teaming up to end the menace that saw some people being killed. Mr Bungei now says that the county is also safe for people and businesses. He said that everybody is being brought on board through collaboration and ensures everyone plays his role.
