A man who allegedly helped his friend rob a woman who rejected his overtures is facing robbery with violence charges. Willy Aswani Okwako has been charged with robbing Christine Njeri Maina of her mobile phone worth Sh16,000 and Sh,1000 in cash at Zimmerman estate within Kasarani Sub County in Nairobi on March 9. Mr Okwako allegedly committed the offence jointly with others while armed with a knife and a metal rod. They are reported to have used violence on the complainant during the incident. Also read: Disinformation - DCI owns up to sharing fake photos of Azimio maandamano The accused person is also facing charges of trafficking narcotic contrary to section 4(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Act of 1994 after he was found with six rolls of bhang worth Sh600 at the time of his arrest on March 23 in the Zimmerman estate. When he was arraigned before the Makadara Law Courts, the court was told how on March 9, 2023 Ms Maina was relaxing outside her house with friends when she was confronted by a man who accused her of turning down his sexual advances. The, who is man known to her, accosted her and asked why she had refused to date him. The assailant while left threatening that she would face him in a short while. After a few minutes, the man returned while armed with a knife and a metal bar and stabbed Ms Maina three times. During the commotion, Mr Okwako allegedly joined the assailant in assaulting and robbing Ms Maina. Ms Maina’s friends tried to intervene but they were overpowered by the two attackers. She later spotted Mr Okwako in the area and informed the police officers who immediately arrested the suspect. Mr Okwako’s accomplice who is the main suspect in the alleged robbery is yet to be arrested. The accused person denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Hellen Okwani of Makadara Law Courts and was released on a bond of Sh800,000 without an option of a cash bail.
