Bien Aime Baraza.

Sauti Sol lead singer Bien Aime Baraza was engaged in a bitter exchange with rapper Khaligraph Jones after he received his Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) royalties. Bien who never shies from publicizing the amount he received as royalties, called out the Kamnyweso hitmaker saying he could have received way less amount as royalties. In response, Khaligraph aggrieved by the 'disrespect' fired back at the Mbwe Mbwe hitmaker saying he is broke and never had any money except the amount he received. Bien received Sh14,634 and posted, "Let the weekend begin. We balling out of control this weekend. Your number 1 artist has been paid royalties. I can only imagine what upcoming artists like @khaligraph_jones are getting. DM with today's." Khaligraph shot back with, "We ni fala sana, ata haukuwa na kitu kwa mpesa kabla wakutumie hiyo (You had nothing before receiving the amount)." Their angry spat also attracted other celebrities who weighed in on the matter saying; "Hio Total Kitty yenu nyote kwa hesabu ya haraka ni kama inakuaga Sh27,423 Per year per sharing ! 😂😂Can't this issue be addressed once and for all??" MCA Tricky said. "Inauma inauma lakini utazoea," wrote Eddie Butita. "Hiyo ni yako pekee yako ama mnagawa Sauti Sol yote?" asked Alex Mwakideu. Last month, the MCSK announced that it would be paying artists their royalties for Performance in Public Places (PPP) and broadcasting starting in March. According to MCSK, the process would go on till the month of May. The society also said the payment would be done for music work broadcasted between July and December 2022. "The Board of Directors of MCSK wishes to notify MCSK members of the following; pursuant to the provisions of articles 39 and 40 of MCSK memorandum and articles of association read with the provision of articles 15 of MCSK distribution rules, MCSK shall be distributing royalties for Performance in Public Places (PPP) and broadcasting Class effective March 2023 and to run up to May," the notice reads in part.
