Lang'ata MP Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang'o on Thursday, May 11, 2023, urged political leaders who contested and lost in the August 2022 General Elections to eat humble pie and accept defeat. Speaking during a function attended by President Dr William Ruto at South C in Lang'ata Constituency, the first-term MP said he contested against Mr Nixon Korir who accepted defeat. Mr Korir is a member of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party. The President was in the constituency where the LapFund affordable housing scheme was launched, which will see a total of 2,500 houses built in 44 months. "I contested against Nixon Korir in Langata and he accepted that I defeated him. Those who were defeated should also accept and move on," said Jalang'o, who was elected on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket. Jalang'o said he had welcomed the programme in the constituency and that the managers should also involve women from the constituency in marketing plans to attract residents. "I have been told that half of the houses have already been allocated, there is no problem with that. However, the women of this constituency must be involved in the marketing process of the remaining houses," the leader said. Speaking at the same event, President Ruto defended his plans to tax Kenyans an additional 3 per cent to fund the project. The President said the housing plans were part of his campaign to provide affordable housing for the underprivileged and create jobs for the youth. "We have been campaigning everywhere, telling Kenyans that there is a housing plan that will give people employment opportunities and enable them to own homes," said the Head of State. The President pointed out that the three per cent deduction is not a tax but part of the money that will create wealth for Kenyans.
