She ostensibly referred to the Kenya Kwanza regime on the country's status. After being sworn in as the fifth head of state of Kenya in September 2022, Dr. William Ruto, and Rigathi Gachagua, the deputy president, alleged that the current regime inherited a dilapidated economy. The former Mathira MP, now the DP, claimed that the former administration led by Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta looted the country. "They should stop ‘admitting’ at the pulpit in God’s name that Kenya does not have money. This country has a lot of money and resources," Elachi said. "We should tell God the Kenyan shilling is one of the most powerful currencies across the world. As Christians, we should not complain, let’s believe in the Bible’s teachings." She cited the fight against alcoholism and drug abuse as a case study where Christianity hides in hypocrisy. "Let’s emulate the Muslims, they do not lament. Christians are the ones who brew alcohol, and are always on the forefront fighting alcohol and drug abuse affecting them. We should pray for our nation," Elachi stated. The legislator's remark on the fight against alcohol, especially in the Mt. Kenya Region, came at a time when DP Gachagua vowed to crush illicit brewers and factories. Elachi's challenge to Christians to emulate Muslims in leadership and lifestyles is timely and thought-provoking. It raises important questions about the role of religion in shaping society and the need for Christians to take up their leadership mantle with integrity and conviction.
