Celebrated Ohangla singer Tony Nyadundo will headline this year’s Kenya National Commission for UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Cultural celebrations and the 10th anniversary celebrations as a state corporation. In addition to Nyadundo, the Kabarak University Choir, several artistes from diverse groups including persons living with special needs and those drawn from the informal settlements will perform at the celebrations to promote inclusivity in creative arts industry. The celebrations began on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, and are set to culminate on Saturday, April 15, to coincide with the World International Arts Day and the late famous Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci’s birthday. "We are delighted to stage our national cultural celebrations and our 10th-anniversary commemoration on the backdrop of the World International Arts Day to be celebrated on Saturday 15th April 2023, with the theme Art is good for the health`. Ours is a testament to our commitment to redefining values as a country and impacting the current generation to rise to the occasion, we are keen on strengthening the foundations of lasting peace and sustainable development,” said Dr Evangeline Njoka, the CEO and Secretary General of , Kenya National Commission for UNESCO. The ongoing festival is taking place at the Kenyatta International Convention Center, and diverse cultural groups drawn from the nation's 47 counties are in attendance. The event will also host multi-sectoral exhibitions. Dr Evangeline Njoka reiterated the government's efforts to enhance UNESCO – Kenya Partnership and underscored the importance of the preservation of our culture; and strengthening cultural values across the country, promoting appreciation of cultural diversity, harnessing inclusivity and sustainability. The theme for the celebrations is theme "A Decade of Excellence- Enhancing Development, National Cohesion, Identity and Pride" which speaks to national integration, cohesion and sustainable development. Today, several top government officials, international organizations executives, and Kenyans from all walks of life are expected at the KICC. The Commission will also launch its 10-year publication detailing significant milestones to show its contributions to Kenya’s development in the areas of education, natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture and communication and Information as well as celebrate Kenya’s rich cultural heritage and diversity.
