President William Ruto has said that the price of maize flour (Unga) will come down in the coming days. Speaking on April 14, 2023, during a meet-the-people tour of Machakos County, the Head of State further stressed that his government is keen to lower the cost of living. "You will soon start seeing a new price of Unga. This is because we have to balance the prices of maize flour so as to protect our farmers," he explained. "You know the maize we import is the work of other farmers but we mostly rely on our local farmers." President Ruto further hit out at politicians who have been demonstrating in recent times. He further accused opposition leaders of failing to lower the cost of living when they had time to influence the government but are now shouting loudest about the same. He also advised Azimio la Umoja One Kenya team to face his government in parliament and stop the sideshows. The president was welcomed with a heavy downpour as he arrived in the region. President Ruto is set to commission the Sh2.7 billion Mavoko Water Supply Project. The project is in line with the commitment to the provision of universal clean and safe water. The Head of State's commitment to lower the cost of Unga comes a few days after Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leader Raila Odinga announced the anti-government demonstrations will resume in the coming days. Odinga and his political lieutenants have been pushing the government to lower the cost of living in the country. Unga prices have been high in the country with 2kg of maize floor retailing at more than Sh200. President Ruto has meanwhile struggled to lower the cost of the precious commodity as he had promised in his pre-election campaigns. Also read: Virgins?
