Mutahi Ngunyi has advised President William Ruto to tame or dump his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua. Ngunyi, a respected political analyst who also served as an advisor to former president Uhuru Kenyatta, argues that Gachagua could destroy Dr Ruto if not well managed. He explained that the DP's outspoken nature may cause harm to President Ruto's reign. He advised the President to step in and remedy the situation before it spirals out of control. Likening the DP to various animals, Ngunyi tweeted, "Gachagua has the heart of a lion, the brain of an ox, and the mouth of a parrot. Dear Ruto: Gachagua is a young bull with greenhorns. As a young bull, his hormones are pumping like a disco. He will destroy you. Or are you deliberately destroying him?" https://twitter.com/MutahiNgunyi/status/1649037761578508290?s=20 The second-in-command in the recent past has stirred up a debate following his remarks in public. In February 2023, DP Gachagua declared the government was a company and that the appointments and contracts would be preserved to staunch supporters of Kenya Kwanza. Speaking in Kericho, Gachagua said, "This government is a company that has shares. There are owners who have the majority of shares, and those with just a few, while others do not have any. You invested in this government and you must reap. You sowed, tilled, put manure, and irrigated, and now it is time to reap." Not done, Gachagua declared that top government positions would be preserved only for politicians who campaigned, supported, and voted for Kenya Kwanza in the 2022 presidential polls. He stressed that even though the government would serve all Kenyans, it was prudent, fair, and logical to reward its supporters with government appointments. "Some are criticizing me for saying those who sowed reap first, but there is nothing wrong. Their time of reaping will come someday in what remains after those who sowed have finished reaping." Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya Alliance leader Raila Odinga has threatened to take DP Gachagua to the International Criminal Court (ICC) following his remarks that he would finish him. Mr Odinga alleged that Gachagua sent police officers who he claimed fired eleven bullets at his car during mass protests on March 27 and 30.
