Both Jubilee and Nasa kicked off their campaigns literally hours after the Supreme Court ruling. But officially, the campaign period is supposed to start today. This is after IEBC  gazetted October 17 as the date for the fresh election.

In the same gazette notice, IEBC stated that campaigns will end on October 15th, being 48 hours before the polls.

Yesterday, Nasa team campaigned in Kisii and Nyamira region while Jubilee toured Kajiado.

Raila made the Supreme Court judgement his biggest talking point, hoping to steal away some Kisii votes from Uhuru following the president’s harsh statements directed at Chief Justice David Maraga.

Uhuru on the other hand accused Raila of having no interest in participating in an election, saying he was interested in a ‘nusu mkate’ government. He further castigated Raila for statements he had made earlier in the day regarding the new election date.

Opposing the new date, Raila stated that Nasa was not consulted, and that the new date was set by Matiang’i and in extension Jubilee. “The exams can be pushed by two weeks. The children are not going to die. They will just go home for holidays.” he said.

Uhuru picked up that statement accusing Raila of having no interest in children but his own power.

”He (Raila) has no shame by saying that Kenyan children will not die if they don’t sit for their exams. Is that a person interested in Kenyan children?” Uhuru said in Ngong.
