Recruiters will always close a job interview by asking the candidate if they have any question for them. This is a great chance to find out more about the job and the company in general.
When asking these questions though, you should remember that you are still being interviewed and there are some questions you might ask the recruiter which makes them change their mind even when they were about to give you the job.
Melody Mwendwa, an interview preparation coach at Corporate Staffing Services advises candidates on preparing before hand and research on samples of questions they should ask if given a chance to avoid a situation where you ask questions that end up embarrassing you.

Interview Questions You Should Never Ask The Recruiter
1. What does the job entail?
“40% of the candidates I interview ask me this question” say Muthoni Ndegwa a Recruitment Manager at Corporate Staffing Services .
It is a total turn off as it makes me wonder whether the candidate even understood what it is we have been talking about for the last 30 minutes, she adds.
Asking this type of question also shows that the candidate has no clue of the jobs he/she applied for or did not bother reading the job description.
“I will obviously never hire such a candidate.” She concludes.
2. When can I expect a raise?
Never show your potential employer that your end game is money.
Asking this question especially on the first interview when you have not even been offered the job is a no.
Remember salary raise is offered based on performance so asking this question portrays you as a person who is out of touch with reality.
3. What does the company do again?
The first thing you do when you are invited for an interview is researching on the company .This allows you get information on what the company does, the service they offer and their possible competitors.
Asking this question only shows that you did not do your homework which obviously means you are not interested in the position.
4. May I arrive late and leave late as long as I get my work done?
We are all looking for work life balance but this is not the time and place to address this question.
Wait until you are hired and are settled, it’s only after you have impressed your employer that you can ask this question.
“Asking this question implies that you are more concerned about your needs and less concerned about the company’s.” Says Ms Mwendwa
5. When will I get promoted?
Just like the salaries issue, promotion is based on performance. In as much as the interviewer would want to give an answer to this question, they are also not in a position to.
It is good to show that you are ambitious but leave some questions for later, at least when you have learned more about the company culture, advises Ms Mwendwa.
Well, there you go. There are a couple of good questions you can ask the recruiter examples include : What are the Most Important Things You’d Like to See Me Accomplish in the First 30, 60 and 90 days of Employment? What metrics would you use to measure success in this role? What are some of the challenges or roadblocks one might come up against in this role?
