Our client, developer, owner and operator of power plants and infrastructure across sub-Saharan Africa are currently seeking to recruit a CFO to be based in their Nairobi Offices but will regular visit to the site which will be based in Nakuru. The ideal candidate Must have experience working in Energy projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Determining the most appropriate accounting package for the business and managing the implementation of that system.
- Determining the most appropriate payroll system, and implementing it to ensure compliance with Kenyan employment laws and with project lender requirements.
- Ensuring that the business is registered for VAT and appropriate VAT compliance is developed.
- Ensuring all contractor payments are made and withholding tax applied in accordance with regulations and the construction contracts.
- Managing the drawdown process for the construction financing, and making appropriate payments to contractors.
- Managing all corporate financial reporting as required by the lenders, the Board of Employer and the shareholders and manage the long term business model.
- Determining the appropriate staffing level of the finance function, and hiring people accordingly.
- Establishing appropriate accounting policies and procedures both during the construction phase and in anticipation of the operating phase.
- Taking ownership of the Employer Financing Agreements and bank relationships and develop relationship with auditors.
- Developing relationships with key stakeholders, including all relevant Governmental Authorities, KPLC, GDC and the Kenyan Revenue Authority.
- Building and leading a world class commercial analysis team able to provide accurate, timely and insightful analysis for senior management.
- Evaluating the overall financial position of the business, analysing and reporting external economic trends, including effects of government legislation.
- Assessing the financial effect on the plant and monitoring and reporting against budgets
- Responsible for liaising with the shareholders’ finance functions to support budgeting, financial planning, control, accounting, tax, and reporting policies and practices.
- Controlling the annual budgeting process and identifying areas for improvements and cost reductions.
- Prescribing methods of providing accounting data for various reports and statements where the need goes beyond the normal content of accounts.
- Managing business cash flow and distributions to shareholders. Managing the liquid assets of the business and optimizing returns.
Qualifications:
- Must have a relevant Bachelor Degree and a Master.
- Must be CPA (K) or ACCA finalist.
- Must 10 years of experience in Senior Finance Management.
- Must have experience managing power projects.
- Must have strong leadership and inter-personal skills.
- Proactive rather than reactive.
- Positive attitude, enthusiastic, open communication style.
- Commercial outlook with previous financial and business analysis experience.
- IFRS experience essential.
